We all want our child to be a well behaved flourishing social butterfly. That is easier said than done. Your child, if not already, will be attending daycare, preschool, or the common hanging out with the babysitter at home. All areas where good behavior and bad behavior do not go unnoticed. Furthermore, it is where your child begins to socialize, make new friends, and grow. All these new sensory inputs and outputs throughout these areas can either cause distress or be easily integrated by your child. You want your child to be as fully prepared to begin to flourish into this beautiful social butterfly, don’t you? Of course you do!
Heidi Haavik has done research on how seeing a chiropractor can have a positive influence on your child. This research consisted on the effect of sensorimotor integration in the prefrontal cortex after receiving chiropractic care. Sensorimotor includes both sensory and motor functions where senses, reflexes, and motor abilities develop for a child. Haavik’s research was conductesd with 2 groups, group 1 had chiropractic care and group 2 had sham chiropractic care (Haavik, 2016). This study was conducted on record four times and each time group 1 has had a 20% increase in brain function in the prefrontal cortex. They used an EEG that showed brainwaves were most abundant in the prefrontal cortex just 30 minutes after a chiropractic session. What could this mean for your child? Well, the prefrontal cortex is the area where executive function takes place which is very important for a child’s every day behavior. This is where the use of language, memory, or even imagination happen. The prefrontal cortex is also helpful for a child to process and carry out goal directed tasks, make decisions, help with intelligence, memory and attention, and even emotional responses. These are just a few of the things that can be benefitted from chiropractic care.
